Writing a brand voice that converts · lesson 2 of 4

Setting your voice

3 min

Your brand profile’s Voice card has four dials. Find them in Settings › Brand profile › Voice. We set them from your website and social pages during onboarding; this lesson helps you fine-tune them.

The four dials

Dial Options
Formality Formal, Polished, Neutral, Casual, Very casual
Humor Serious, Light, Playful
Length Very short, Short, A bit longer
Emoji No emoji, Rarely, Now and then, Often

How to choose

  • Formality: picture your best store assistant texting a regular. Most brands land on Casual.
  • Humor: Light works almost everywhere. Playful suits brands whose customers joke first.
  • Length: Short. Only choose A bit longer if your products genuinely need explaining.
  • Emoji: match your brand. Even on Often, the assistant only uses them when the customer does, and never more than one.

Notes on your voice

The Notes on your voice box is for anything the dials can’t say: “we call customers ‘friend’”, “never say ‘cheap’”, “we’re a family business in Ohio”. Keep it to a few lines.

Sending it for review

Click Send for review. A person on our team checks it, and your assistant keeps the approved version until then.

Quick check

Your brand is playful on Instagram, but customers text you about orders worth hundreds of dollars. Which setting is the safer start?
